What do I get for free?
Every account starts with three free recipe scans. Creating, editing, organising, cooking from and sharing recipes you already have is not metered — only turning a photograph into a new structured recipe uses a scan.
What happens to the original photo of my recipe card?
It stays. Tradish keeps the source image attached to the recipe, unchanged, so you can always compare the cooking copy against what was actually written. Digitising a card is not a replacement for it, and we would never suggest you throw the original away.
How accurate is the transcription?
Honestly: good, not perfect. Handwriting, fading, stains and cramped margins all make it harder. That is why Tradish gives you a reviewable draft rather than claiming a perfect reading — you see what was extracted alongside the original and correct anything wrong before you save it.
When exactly is a scan used up?
When a reviewable recipe and its source are actually delivered to you — not when an upload starts. If a run fails, or the image cannot be read, the reservation is released and you keep the scan.
Do purchased scans expire?
No. Scans you buy do not expire, and there is no subscription attached to them.
What happens to my recipes if I run out of scans?
Nothing. Running out only stops you creating new recipes from photographs. Everything already in your archive stays visible, editable, cookable and shareable. Tradish does not hold your family recipes hostage.
Does correcting a recipe cost another scan?
No. Reviewing, correcting and re-editing a recipe is free and unlimited. Typing a recipe in by hand does not use a scan either.
Can relatives add recipes to my collection?
Yes — you can invite family to contribute to a collection you own. Because their uploads are processed against your balance, Tradish shows you that rule and asks you to accept it before the invitation is created.
Does Tradish use AI, and who can see my recipes?
Yes. Reading a photographed card uses AI text recognition and language models, which means the image and its text are processed by third-party providers under contract. Your recipes are private to you and the people you share them with; they are not published, and they are not used for marketing without your explicit permission.
Can I get my recipes back out?
Yes. Being able to export what you own is a promise, not an upgrade you have to buy. Your archive should outlast any decision you make about this app.
